Esperanzo
Esperanzo, a howler monkey, was found abandoned in Chile in a shoe-box. He was taken to the rescue centre Siglo XXI where staff discovered he had a broken back and blinding cateracts. Due to their care and attentions, Esperanzo recovered enough to lead a good life, he will never be able to be released as his disabilities are so severe, but he can lead a stimulating and social life at the rescue centre with other monkeys in the care of SIglo XXI. The staff at the centre named him Esperanzo as it means 'hope'.

Esperanzo forages in his enclosure in Chile; he was lucky to have survived his ordeal in the pet trade and now requires life-long specialist care from the dedicated team at Siglo XXI
Esperanzo lives a life in the company of other monkeys, especially his best friends; female howler monkeys called Esperanza and Pola.
The Monkey Sanctuary gives a percentage of its annual income from its Adopt a Monkey scheme to help the valuable work of Siglo XXI in South America. Esperanzo was one of the lucky few saved from the pet trade in Chile. With your help The Monkey Sanctuary and Siglo XXI can rescue, rehabilitate and help more primates in the UK, Soth America, and worldwide.
Adopting Esperanzo enables The Monkey Sanctuary to continue sending resources to other sanctuaries in the world; helping to end the pet trade and save primates worldwide.
