Frosty

Frosty, a black-capped capuchin, is approximately 12 years old. He lived for years on his own in a small, bare, metal cage, deprived of the company of other monkeys and environmental stimulation. This led to Frosty developing sterio-typical behaviours such as head-twisting and pacing his cage; with the active social life he has now, Frosty is busy enough that these damaging behaviours only surface rarely. Sterio-typical behaviours are re-occurant however, and are often deeply ingrained. With social and environmental stimulation  they can be treated.

When Frosty arrived at the Sanctuary he was overweight due to a poor diet and from having no space to exercise. He is naturally sociable, and is a keen and expressive character who is always interested in all that goes on around him. With the correct care and diet, Frosty may live to be 40 years old. Now, Frosty is the dominant male of a sucessful social group of capuchins. He has several females who look to him for leadership and support and has become a fit, healthy monkey with lots going on in his life! Frosty has a tendancy to over-eat and so Keepers at the Monkey Sanctuary have to watch his diet carefully; most of the time however, his now-busy social life keeps him active and fit!
