Giz is a female black-capped capuchin rescued by the Monkey Sanctuary in 2010. She arrived with her daughter, Kiwi and another black-capped capuchin, a male, called Grips. The three capuchins had been living together for many years when their owner decided that they could be better provided for at the Monkey Sanctuary and wrote to the charity asking for help. The three capuchins arrived in the chilly February of 2010 and have been settling in well since.

Kiwi, Giz and Grips at their old home
When they first arrived, all three capuchins had poor coat conditions and were very skinny; they have all been on regular doses of oils for their coats and have been eating away happily since their arrival; each of them has put on healthy weight and are looking in much better condition than on arrival.
Giz looks like a frail old lady capuchin, but under her tiny and wobbly exterior there is the true boss of the group lurking! Although Grips, the male of the group, is far bigger than Giz, and her daughter Kiwi is far younger and more agile, if either is told off by Giz, then they listen!
Giz is shy around humans and prefers to approach people on her own terms; she is learning, however, to trust keepers at the Monkey Sanctuary and is enjoying the oppurtunity to explore the new enclosures that offer her more space than she has known in her life.
Giz is an old lady now and we hope to offer her an interesting and stable retirement here at the Monkey Sanctuary with her daughter and her friend Kiwi and Grips. In time, keepers at the Sanctuary hope to introduce her and the rest of this group to other rescued capuchins so that they can have the stimulation, comfort and excitement of company of the same species.
