Sissy-Jo
Sissy-Jo is a female patas monkey. She was rescued by the Monkey Sanctuary in 2008 when the Sanctuary she was living at previously was forced to close due to the 'credit crunch'. Sissy-Jo is very shy of humans.

Sissy-Jo surveys her enclosure (the 'Dell'). Patas monkeys are the fastest monkeys on earth, clocking speeds of up to 55km per hour!

Sissy-Jo came to the Monkey Sanctuary with another elderly patas monkey named Mumby. Sissy-Jo and Mumby had lived together for most of their lives, moving from zoo to zoo and eventually ending up at The Monkey Sanctuary where staff hoped to offer the two elderly ladies a retirement home for the rest of their lives. In April 2009 however, Mumby fell ill and was rushed to the vets where it was found that she had a tumour in her intestinal tract. The descision was taken to have Mumby put to sleep as the operation needed to treat this type of tumour was untried on non-human primates and was very unlikely to work on Mumby.
This has left Sissy-Jo very much alone, and staff at the Monkey Sanctuary are working on different options for her future.

Patas monkeys are the fastest species of primate on earth, clocking speeds of up to 34 mph/55kph in the wild. Sissy-Jo is rather beyond the time she would have been able to run that fast! Her favourite exercise is more gentle, and involves foraging for insects in the lush enclosure and perching up high on the beams, enjoying the views. Sissy-Jo loves to be up high and her enclosure, the 'Dell' gives her ample oppurtunity to enjoy the clear Cornish skies.

Adopting Sissy-Jo will allow us to give her a happy retirement, filled with all the things that she loves to eat and enjoying the Cornish views!
