I am a Monkey is the story of Joey, one of the rescued capuchin monkeys at The Monkey Sanctuary in Cornwall. Joey was captured in the rainforests of South America and was brought to London to be a pet. Kept for nine years in a tiny cage with no natural light, Joey developed weak and malformed bones that have left him permenently disabled.

A picture of the cage Joey was kept in for 9 years.
Joey's story is told here, from the rainforests, through the pet trade and to his rescue and rehabilitation at The Monkey Sanctuary in Cornwall.
I am a Monkey is a story sensitively told and beautifully illustrated for younger children. Adults and children alike will fall in love with the brave Joey as he faces challenges through his life as a pet, until his rescue and the start of a new life at the rescue centre of the Monkey Sanctuary.
